“Guess what? I Love You.”

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

Mark 10:14

Raising little boys brings alive the character of God as our Abba–Daddy.  When I (Mom) can see past my own weakness to meet the demands of my role, watching or listening to my sons often reminds me of my need to be like a little child seeking my Father, God.

  • Children are utterly dependent on the safety of home and the care of parents, but they long for autonomy.  How often do I seek my own way rather than resting in the security of God’s right path for my life?
  • Children want constant, secure companionship.  Titus refuses to go anywhere out of the house without me by his side.  In the sandbox, I have to sit on the narrow edge with my feet in, not out of the box.  If I walk to the road to check the mail, I hear scampering feet behind me and a little voice shouting, “I comin’, too, Mom!”  Shouldn’t I keep just as close to the Savior every day?
  • Children are persistent, relentless, doggedly determined…there must be a hundred ways to say it–they never give up asking for something they want!  Jesus Himself told us to be persistent in petitioning God.
  • Children are interested in their parents’ activities and want to be involved in every aspect.  When I’m washing dishes, Titus wants his hands in the soapy water.  If Daddy’s fixing the car, he wants his head under the hood, too.  Even now as I write this blog post, Titus keeps hopping up on my lap to see what’s new.  And don’t even get me started on airplanes…  The point is, Jesus also gave us a command to get involved in the Father’s work!  (“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations…”)
  • But I saved the best for last.  Surely, God’s heart must overflow when he hears the words from our lips that I heard a couple of days ago from Titus.  He snuggled his little body up to me and said softly, “Guess what, Mom?  I love you.  And guess what, Mom?  I love Daddy, too.”

“We love because He first loved us.”

  1. Those words are so precious! Treasure them. I agree, I think our Father God wants to hear them also….”Guess what? Lord God, I love you!”
